The Cross is much older than Christianity. In fact it dates back as far as 10,000 B.C. and has had many different meanings associated with it. Throughout history it has been considered to house spirits of the dead, represent the male and female aspects of life, signify sexual union, as well as be expressions of the physical and spiritual world which reach a balance and sense of completeness when they meet in the middle. With the advent of Christianity it came to represent the endlessness of God’s love.
