Pewter is a wonderful metal with a long history. The oldest known pewter is about 3500 years old and comes from Egypt. About the only thing which has changed in pewter manufacture is the composition of materials. Today tin is the main material with some copper. Many people think of tin as a cheap metal, but, in fact, it is precious and expensive. Tin is the forth most commonly used precious metal after platinum, gold and silver.
